The aim of this project is the creation of a network of exchange and collaboration between artists from the Netherlands and artists from Greece.
Inviting 20 artists from both countries to participate, the residency takes place from the 20th-30th of July.
Organised by Eleni&Eleni
The program is organized by the Groningen-based artist Eleni Tsompanidou in collaboration with the Athens-based performer and facilitator, Eleni Voultsidou. Both of them are interested in facilitating art and stimulating the local culture of Dikea.
Because of their own experiences growing up in the village, they are aware of the lack of creative opportunities. A situation that has been intensified in the past years by the depopulation of the area. They also know that the village’s location, history and tradition are worth exploring. Located at the point where Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey meet, it has always been a crossroads of cultures and a place to connect and exchange.
Using the vacant spaces of the village, they offer the artists a communal living, working space, food and a budget for expenses. While providing them with the space, time and money, they invite the artists to immerse themselves in their practices, both individually and collectively, without having an end goal in mind. The focus is on process and research.
The process of this experience will be documented through a co-created publication that will be distributed in both Greece and the Netherlands, in a printed and online format.
Your support
The aim of crowdfunding is the financial aid of the project for €5.000.
The municipality of Dikea has offered two vacant spaces for facilitating the residency. The organizational part is realised by the own contributions of Eleni Tsompanidou and Eleni Voultsidou.
The money from crowdfunding will be used for creating suitable meeting and working spaces, for the artists and the community, in the vacant buildings. It will provide basic art materials that will also be used for workshops and equipment for public presentations.
The documentation of the project in the format of a publication will be covered partially by crowdfunding and other funds aimed at artists.
About us:
Eleni Tsompanidou was born in Dikea, and she is currently based in Groningen in the Netherlands; she works between both countries. Her practice explores issues of sociological nature through experimental research and examining reality via her personal experiences. Besides her artistic practice, she is interested in the creation and facilitation of art platforms, and she is a creative director at ARTisBOOK foundation, an art space in Groningen
Eleni Voultsidou grew up in Dikea Greece and for the past 7 years, she lives and works in Athens. She is currently working as a dancer and a teacher. After graduating, she travelled for workshops, auditions and projects in Europe and Israel, and she became interested in performing arts and facilitation.

Het doel van dit project is het creëren van een netwerk van uitwisseling en samenwerking tussen kunstenaars uit Nederland en kunstenaars uit Griekenland.
Er worden 20 kunstenaars uit beide landen uitgenodigd om deel te nemen. De residency vindt plaats van 20 tot 30 juli.
Georganiseerd door Eleni&Eleni
Het programma wordt georganiseerd door de Groningse kunstenaar Eleni Tsompanidou in samenwerking met de Atheense performer en facilitator, Eleni Voultsidou. Beiden zijn geïnteresseerd in het faciliteren van kunst en het stimuleren van de lokale cultuur van Dikea.
Door hun eigen ervaringen met het opgroeien in het dorp, zijn ze zich bewust van het gebrek aan creatieve mogelijkheden. Een situatie die de laatste jaren is verergerd door de ontvolking van het gebied. Zij weten ook dat de ligging, de geschiedenis en de traditie van het dorp het waard zijn om te worden verkend. Gelegen op het punt waar Griekenland, Bulgarije en Turkije elkaar ontmoeten, is het altijd een kruispunt van culturen geweest en een plaats om contacten te leggen en uit te wisselen.
Door gebruik te maken van de leegstaande ruimtes van het dorp, bieden zij de kunstenaars een gemeenschappelijke woon- en werkruimte, voedsel en een budget voor onkosten. Terwijl ze hen voorzien van de ruimte, tijd en geld, nodigen ze de kunstenaars uit om zich onder te dompelen in hun praktijk, zowel individueel als collectief, zonder een einddoel voor ogen te hebben. De nadruk ligt op proces en onderzoek.
Het proces van deze ervaring zal worden gedocumenteerd door middel van een gezamenlijk gecreëerde publicatie die zowel in Griekenland als in Nederland zal worden verspreid, in gedrukte vorm en online.

Het doel van de crowdfunding is de financiële ondersteuning van het project voor €5.000.
De gemeente Dikea heeft twee leegstaande ruimtes ter beschikking gesteld om de residency mogelijk te maken. Het organisatorische deel wordt gerealiseerd door de eigen bijdragen van Eleni Tsompanidou en Eleni Voultsidou.
Het geld van de crowdfunding zal worden gebruikt voor het creëren van geschikte ontmoetings- en werkplekken, voor de kunstenaars en de gemeenschap, in de leegstaande gebouwen. Het zal voorzien in basis kunstmaterialen die ook gebruikt zullen worden voor workshops en apparatuur voor publieke presentaties.
De documentatie van het project in de vorm van een publicatie zal gedeeltelijk worden gedekt door crowdfunding en andere fondsen gericht op kunstenaars.
Over ons:
Eleni Tsompanidou is geboren in Dikea, en ze is momenteel gevestigd in Groningen in Nederland; ze werkt tussen beide landen. Haar praktijk verkent kwesties van sociologische aard door middel van experimenteel onderzoek en het onderzoeken van de werkelijkheid via haar persoonlijke ervaringen. Naast haar artistieke praktijk is ze geïnteresseerd in het creëren en faciliteren van kunstplatforms, en is ze creatief directeur bij stichting ARTisBOOK, een kunstruimte in Groningen.
Eleni Voultsidou groeide op in Dikea Griekenland en sinds 7 jaar woont en werkt ze in Athene. Momenteel werkt ze als danseres en docente. Na haar afstuderen reisde ze voor workshops, audities en projecten in Europa en Israël, en raakte ze geïnteresseerd in podiumkunsten en faciliteren.
