Support jij de kunst en geloof je in jonge makers? Wij zijn Jasper v. Buren (Producent & Editor), Martijn Kuyvenhoven (Regisseur & Schrijver) en Miles Delfos (Co-regisseur & Schrijver). Samen zullen wij het Arthouse genre een nieuw leven inblazen. MANU wordt een symbolische korte film waarbij het verhaal door beeld en geluid gedragen wordt. Steun jij ons? Alvast bedankt!

De film volgt het personage Manu. Manu verschuilt zijn kwetsbare staat achter een dominant imago als reactie op zijn traumatische verleden dat (desondanks) nog altijd in de buurt is. Hij leidt een hedonistisch bestaan dat plaatsvindt in een grote loods waar hij woont en een club in de stad waar hij regelmatig komt. Daar ontmoet hij Eros. Na een intieme eerste nacht volgt de afstand die Manu tot een manische toestand drijft. Zonder Eros houdt zijn gevormde identiteit geen stand. De obsessie voor Eros leidt tot zelfdestructie en zijn onvermijdelijke wedergeboorte.

MANU is een film waarin gevoelens van liefde en eenzaamheid centraal staan. De film zet de identiteitscrisis van het hoofdpersonage als gevolg van trauma uiteen. Het gebrek aan reflectie leidt in Manu's geval tot zelfdestructie. Het verhaal is geïnspireerd door de Griekse mythologie van de manische liefde ("Mania") en het mythische verhaal van Narcissus.

We zijn drie jonge makers vanuit verschillende disciplines met verschillende specialisaties. Martijn & Miles zijn vanuit hun mode achtergrond getraind in visueel communiceren en hebben vanuit daar al ervaring met filmprojecten. Zij sluiten zich als regisseurs aan bij deze afstudeerfilm van Jasper. Wij geloven dat onze hybride manier van werken tot een vernieuwend en impactvol resultaat zal leiden.

Als jong volwassen makers zijn we geïnteresseerd in het begrip identiteit en hoe dit gevormd wordt. In de hedendaagse maatschappij is het steeds lastiger om dichtbij jezelf te blijven. Wijzelf worstelen soms met wie wij zijn in relatie tot wie we denken te moeten zijn. Dit zien wij ook om ons heen, in het bijzonder wanneer er trauma bij betrokken is.

De film behandeld veelvoorkomende gevoelens, desondanks vinden we dat deze te weinig vertegenwoordigd worden. Wij zijn ervan overtuigd dat onze gezamenlijke stijlvoorkeur (films waarin beeld en geluid meer dan dialoog leidend zijn) een vernieuwende manier is om dit onderwerp mee te onderzoeken.

Voor het maken van de film is er geld nodig voor het huren van apparatuur , locaties , decor en het dekken van verdere productie kosten. We zijn inmiddels al meerdere maanden bezig met het het verhaal en de productie. Het zou veel voor ons betekenen als jullie ons zouden steunen in dit proces.

Together we will breathe new life into the Arthouse genre. MANU will be a symbolic short film that carries the story through sound and visuals. Do you support us? Thanks in advance!

The film follows the character of Manu. As a reaction to its traumatic past, Manu is hiding the vulnerable side of his personality behind a dominant attitude. The big warehouse where he lives in and the club he often goes to embody the hedonistic life of Manu. One night in this club, Manu meets Eros. Eventually, after a night of intimacy, Eros abandons Manu. The abandonment of Eros leads Manu into a manic state. Without the presence of Eros, the deeply constructed identity of Manu will fall apart. His obsession for Eros leads to self destruction and an unavoidable rebirth.

MANU is a film about love and loneliness. The film explores the identity crisis of the main character as a result of trauma. Manu’s inability to reflect leads him to selfdestruction. The story is inspired by the Greek mythology of manic love (‘’Mania’’) and the myth of Narcissus.

We are three young makers that come from different specializations. Martijn & Miles, with a background in fashion, have been trained to communicate visually and already have some experience in film projects. Therefore they join Jasper as the directors of his graduation film MANU. We believe this hybrid way of working will lead to an impactful result.

As young adults and makers we are interested in identity and how it is shaped. In today’s society people are more and more likely to drift away from who they really are. We ourselves sometimes struggle with who we are in relation to what we feel we should be and we see that with others too, especially when trauma is involved.

Manu investigates these familiar emotions, we think they are not being represented in the arts that well. We think that our style preferences (film where image and sound rather than dialogue tell the story) could be a new and interesting way of exploring this subject.

In order to make our film we need money to rent equipment, hire locations and cover all production costs. We have already been working on the concept, script and production for a couple of months now and it would mean the world to us if you can help us realize our dream project.
