Peach is a small exhibition space and photographic darkroom founded in Rotterdam in 2015. We are launching its first annual membership program in order to raise additional funding to develop exhibitions, a residency and a karaoke bar as well as support the general functioning of the space, set in a little, wooden shed. We would like to organize such an event every year.
To celebrate and thank our new members, Peach will organize a get together at Peach :) with all the members after completion of the campaign.

Where does your money go?
With your membership you support one year of programming of the space. The money goes toward artist and production fees, to the staff at Peach (for their work in installation, grant writing, translations, curation, programming, website, documentation etc.), and maintenance of the space.
Each artist receives an 800 euro artist fee for a solo exhibition + a budget to cover shipping, accommodation and travel. Each year Peach realizes around 6 projects and hosts residencies in the photo darkroom. The projects shown are mostly new works premiering at Peach.
Additionally, Peach would like to open its doors 2 days a week on a regular basis so your money will also serve to pay someone to invigilate the space. Currently, Peach is open 1 day a week.

Little bit of history and what we do
Almost 7 years ago, on the 13th February 2015, the first exhibition at Peach was opened in a small unused room in the attic of a private apartment in Rotterdam. The exhibition by Hunter Longe, titled “Small Goals”, was an exhibition of tiny acrylic, graphite and colored pencil on thermo-sensitive polystyrene.
Peach's idea was to make an exhibition space within a home, and to show friends and artists' work that we found great and unrepresented in Rotterdam in this intimate context. As foreigners living in The Netherlands, the idea was also to ground ourselves within the context of Rotterdam by hosting projects and taking a proactive role within the city.

In 2018, Peach moved to its current location, a garden shed of about 20m2 in a backyard. In 2019, after years of self funding the space (and the free labor from the artists and collaborators involved), we received funding from the Municipality of Rotterdam. Since 2019, we have been able to pay a fair fee to everyone involved in our projects.
In July 2021, Peach received a second grant from the Municipality of Rotterdam. But in order to become more independent we've decided to start an annual membership program renewable each year.
Through the years, Peach has been a home, an exhibition space, a photographic darkroom, a collective and a bar. It has hosted exhibitions, performances, residencies, concerts and workshops. It has taken part in collective exhibitions and projects in Frankfurt, Maastricht, Amsterdam, Sofia, Essen and soon in Polignano a Mare (IT, March 2022).
The projects shown at Peach are very often new works commissioned to premiere at Peach made by under-represented artists, from Rotterdam and beyond. Since 2019, Peach's program has run under the title “Center for the Mumble”. Based on personal experience, Autofiction explores issues, questions and answers that one grapples with every day. In today's cultural climate of high anxiety, the experience of these kinds of works can be helpful (or even therapeutic) for others through their candid display of flawed subjectivity and through their innate vulnerability. Through their exhibitions, the artists selected draw from a long history of such autobiographical works.

Preview Program 2022/2023
The project is currently made up of three different formats:
I - Peach Exhibitions 2022/2023: Center for the Mumble
- Jake Caleb
- Tiphanie Kim Mall
- Project curated by Julian Ross
- + more exhibitions TBA
II - Peach Darkroom Residency
Awarded to one (or two) artist(s) to develop a new work in the photo darkroom facility at Peach. Last year the artist selected was Lili Huston-Herterich. The work produced in April was shown at Peach in the spring: https://www.peachopposite.com/forever-fever .
III - Peach songs
What medium, other than karaoke, brings us together to have fun while allowing our vulnerable selves to express our personal preoccupations and histories? People love songs that relate to their own stories, how they wish their stories had played out, or their fantasy lives. This is why karaoke is a playful medium of amateur expression. You may discover sides of your friends that you didn't know, including the timbre of their singing voice, a secret kept, or their guilty pleasure. This occurrence rarely happens outside karaoke bars.
Peach Songs will be a monthly event in the exhibition space (Covid regulations dependant).
