Geef mij een zetje in de rug bij het organiseren van een feestelijk debuut-recital in Amsterdam!

WAUW! Na vijf dagen waren we al voorbij ons doelbedrag!! Een enorm dankjewel aan de donateurs die hieraan hebben bijgedragen! Maar… nieuwkomers: jullie bijdrage is nog steeds erg welkom. Voor drie verdere onderdelen van het organiseren van dit concert, zou ik voor jullie steun erg dankbaar zijn:
1) Allereerst, en dit vind ik persoonlijk erg belangrijk, zou ik het concert graag aan jonge luisteraars willen kunnen aanbieden. Een gedeelte van het nieuwe doelbedrag wil ik gebruiken om een aantal jonge mensen/studenten een vrijkaart te geven.
2) Daarnaast is er de mogelijkheid om het concert op te laten nemen, waardoor er ook een ‘materiële’ blijvende herinnering van deze gelegenheid zou zijn.
3) Tot slot voor de marketing: om het concert zoveel mogelijk te verspreiden, zal ik zorg dragen voor de marketing (flyers, posters, etc.). Uiteindelijk willen de zaal natuurlijk zo vol mogelijk krijgen!
Ik hoop dat ik jullie op deze manier het geïnspireerd om nog deel te worden van deze crowdfunding!

Op de drempel van een nieuw levenshoofdstuk, het einde van een kleurrijke muzikale vooropleiding en het afronden van een uitgebreid onderzoek... een bijzonder moment dat erom vraagt gevierd te worden! Mijn naam is Thomas Prechal, ik ben een 17-jarige cellist en componist en samen met pianiste Natasja Douma zou ik dit moment graag met u willen delen en vieren in de vorm van een feestelijk debuut recital in de Kleine Zaal van het Concertgebouw Amsterdam op zondag 12 juni 2022 (14:15). Waarom dit feestelijk recital?

Juni 2022 wordt voor mij een uniek moment en wel om twee redenen.

Allereerst zal ik dan niet alleen mijn muzikale vooropleiding op de Academie Muzikaal Talent in Utrecht en het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag, maar ook mijn schooltijd op het Christelijk Gymnasium Utrecht afronden. Een jarenlange droom komt uit: in september zal ik met een vakstudie aan het Conservatoire de Paris beginnen. Dit betekent dat ik nu op de drempel sta om met volledige focus aan mijn leven als musicus te beginnen! Er is de afgelopen jaren heel veel gebeurd: natuurlijk heb ik sinds mijn vijfde heel veel gestudeerd, daartoe geïnspireerd en geholpen door mijn geweldige docenten Lenian Benjamins, Jan Ype Nota en Michel Strauss en ook mijn theorie en solfège docenten Ralf Pisters, Carolijn Moulen Janssen en Paul Scheepers. Tijdens masterclasses met beroemde musici en motiverende collega-studenten heb ik heel veel geleerd, gemusiceerd en gelachen. Mijn cello en de muziek hebben me naar prachtige plekken in binnen-en buitenland gevoerd en met veel verschillende mensen in contact gebracht. Inmiddels heb ik al best wat prijzen mogen ontvangen op diverse (inter)nationale concoursen, gelegenheden om mijn eigen grenzen vooruit te schuiven. Gecomponeerd heb ik ook: hoogtepunten daarvan waren de première van mijn strijkkwintet ‘Ephémère’ in de Salle Cortot in Parijs met studenten van de Conservatoire de Paris en de wereldpremière van mijn compositie ‘Phoenix’ voorcello en orkest, die ik mocht spelen met het Noord Nederlands Orkest in de Oosterpoort in Groningen.

Daarnaast markeert dit moment ook het einde van een intensief traject dat ik de afgelopen anderhalf jaar heb doorgemaakt met pianiste Natasja Douma. Samen hebben wij Rachmaninoff’s monumentale Sonate voor Cello en Piano diepgaand onderzocht. We hebben het werk gedetailleerd geanalyseerd met de onschatbare hulp van muziektheoreticus Paul Scheepers, het originele manuscript bestudeerd, opnames beluisterd, allerlei interpretaties uitgeprobeerd... Door deze kennis is er – naar onze mening – een unieke benadering van het stukontstaan, waarbij we diepere lagen zijn tegenkomen en zijn we nóg meer van deze muziek gaan houden dan we al deden...

Wat staat er op het programma?
We willen het recital beginnen met mijn eigen Sonate voor Cello en Piano, een van mijn recentste composities. Vervolgens een charmante Romance van Robert Schumann, een ‘cellistische knaller’ van David Popper, en tot slot natuurlijk de sonate van Sergej Rachmaninoff.

Alle muziek die tijdens dit recital zal klinken, is geschreven door 'uitvoerende componisten'. Popper is wel de cellist-componist bij uitstek, Rachmaninoff kennen we als piano-tijger, en aan pianist Schumann danken we veel complexe kamermuziek. Ik vind het eervol om daar mijn eigen stem via mijn Sonate aan toe te kunnen voegen.

Prachtige muziek, een prachtig moment en een prachtige plek - aan het mogelijk maken van dit recital op dit springplank-moment in mijn leven, zijn wel wat kosten verbonden. On the threshold of a new chapter in life, the end of a colourful musical preparatory training, an extensive research project being completed.... a special moment that deserves to be celebrated! My name is Thomas Prechal, I am a 17-year-old cellist and composer and, together with pianist Natasja Douma, I would like to share and celebrate this moment with you in the form of a festive debut recital in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam on Sunday June 12th, 2022 (14:15).

Why this festive recital?
June 2022 will be a unique moment for me for two reasons.

First of all, I will not only complete my musical preparatory education at the Academy of Musical Talent in Utrecht and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, but also my high school at the Christelijk Gymnasium Utrecht. A dream for many years has come true: in September, I will start my professional studies at the Conservatoire de Paris. This means that I am now on the threshold of starting my life with a full focus on being a musician! A lot has happened in recent years: of course, I have practiced a lot since I was five, inspired and helped by my wonderful teachers Lenian Benjamins, Jan-Ype Nota and Michel Strauss, and also my theory and solfège teachers Ralf Pisters, Carolijn Moulen Janssen and Paul Scheepers. During masterclasses with well-known musicians and motivating fellow students, I have learned a lot, made music and had quite a few laughs. My cello and the music have taken me to many beautiful places and brought me in contact with many different people. I have already received quite a few prizes at various (inter)national competitions, excellent moments to push my own (musical) boundaries. I have also composed: highlights were the premiere of my string quintet 'Ephémère' in the Salle Cortot in Paris with students from the Conservatoire de Paris and the world premiere of my composition 'Phoenix' for cello and orchestra, which I was very honored to play with the North Dutch Symphony Orchestra in the Oosterpoort in Groningen.

In addition, this moment also marks the end of an intensive project that I executed during the past year and a half with pianist Natasja Douma. Together we have researched Rachmaninoff's monumental Sonata for Cello and Piano in depth. We have analysed the work in detail with the invaluable help of music theorist Paul Scheepers, studied the original manuscript, listened to recordings, tried all kinds of different interpretations... This knowledge has – in our view – created a unique approach to the piece, in which we try to reach deeper levels in the music and we have come to love this music even more than we already did…

What's on the agenda?
We would like to start the recital with my own Sonata for Cello and Piano, one of my most recent compositions. Then a charming Romance by Robert Schumann, some 'cellistic acrobatics' by David Popper, and finally, of course, the grand sonata by Sergej Rachmaninoff.

All the music that will be performed during this recital is written by 'performing composers'. Popper is the most famous cellist-composer, we know Rachmaninoff as the ultimate pianist, and we owe much beautiful chamber music to pianist Schumann. I am very honored to be able to add my own voice through my Sonata.
