Wie is Julija?
Ik ben Julija Hartig, een violiste, lid van meerdere kamermuziek ensembles en verbonden als eerste violiste aan het Radio Filharmonisch Orkest. Ik ben één van de musici van SPLENDOR en co-initiator van collectief LUDWIG. De viool is voor mij een communicatiemiddel en communicatie is mijn grootste passie.
Mijn hele leven heb ik met componisten een nauwe en inspiratievolle samenwerking gehad. De allereerste kennismaking met het proces van componeren was als kind dankzij mijn vader. Later tijdens mijn muzikale carriére bleek ik heel gemakkelijk contacten te kunnen leggen en vriendschap te kunnen sluiten met componisten. Er was sprake van een wederzijds begrip en inspiratie. Zo zijn in de loop van de tijd meerdere stukken voor solo viool ontstaan die speciaal voor mij zijn geschreven.
Waarom deze CD?
Ook voor dit project schrijven drie componisten nieuwe muziek voor mij. Het voelt daarom heel bijzonder deze stukken voor mijn CD-'D a r k V e l v e t' op te nemen en ze zo onder de aandacht te brengen van een breed publiek. Ik hoop deze composities een 'leven' te geven en natuurlijk ook de kans deel te worden van het hedendaagse repertoire voor viool solo.
Dit project is zeer persoonlijk en heeft een sterk autobiografisch karakter.
De componisten zijn net als ikzelf van Joegoslavische/Nederlandse bodem. Het is daardoor een symbolische brug tussen mijn twee thuislanden en de daarbij behorende culturen.
Over de stukken:
Ze hebben allemaal hun eigen unieke taal en wijze voor het uiten van gedachten en gevoelens. Van diep pure, oprechte en meest tedere liefde tot bijna onaardse klanken op zoek naar antwoorden. Diep verdriet over verlies, hartstochtelijke hebzucht naar leven en liefde en sterk vervormde, ontbonden schoonheid. Eén ding hebben ze gemeen, ze zijn allemaal speciaal voor mij geschreven of gearrangeerd met een diep begrip voor mijn manier van spelen, intens, eerlijk en expressief. Ik hou van ze allemaal, het zijn mijn kinderen! Er zijn vijf solostukken, drie voor viool en piano, één voor viool en cello en 'last but not least' een heel uitdagend stuk van 3 minuten voor viool, piano en mijn eigen stem.

De droom!
Naast het uitvoeren van bovengenoemd repertoire, ben ik zeer gedreven om het hele proces van componeren en uitvoeren van nieuwe muziek dichter bij het publiek te brengen in een door mij bedachte vorm van ‘muziek-journaling’ en video presentaties. Op YouTube heb ik daartoe een playlist aangemaakt 'Creating D a r k V e l v e t'.
Wie doet mee?
Twee fantastische musici doen mee aan een aantal stukken. Pianiste Reineke Broekhans en celliste Maja Bogdanovic. De opnames voor de CD worden in Hilversum in het MCO gemaakt door Guido Tichelman en door het label Challenge Classics records uitgebracht. Het promotie concert waarbij de CD word gepresenteerd zal begin juli 2022 plaats vinden in Amsterdam.
Het is voor mij ondenkbaar dit project te doen zonder "mijn" Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume 'Ex-Zimmermann'! Deze prachtige viool is mij in bruikleen gegeven door het Nationaal Instrumenten Fonds. Ik ben het NMF daar zeer dankbaar voor.
Dankzij de financiële steun van SENA Performers Muziekproductiefonds zal een deel van de kosten worden gedekt. Ik zou het zeer op prijs stellen als jullie mij zouden kunnen helpen om de overige kosten te kunnen dekken, zoals de huur van de MCO studio in Hilversum, de opnameleider, het printen van de CD en de promotie ervan.

Who is Julija?
I am a driven creative person. My main tool is the violin and I am a member of several chamber music ensembles and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra but my driving force is communication, dialogue and inspiration. I am in search of deep meaningful beauty that is not obvious and influenced by what we already know and recognise. I am curious and passionate about the language of new music and bringing the process of learning it to the audience. Always in dialogue with the audience searching for a new perspective.
From an early age on, thanks to the fact that my father was a cellist and composer, I experienced the creative process and very close collaboration on writing pieces for my instrument, violin.
Later on in my life, the connection to composers came very easy and naturally, and as a result of that mutual understanding and inspiration, several pieces were written or arranged for me.
Why CD 'D a r k V e l v e t'?
My wish is to make most of them a part of the - CD ‘D a r k V e l v e t' and in that way present them to the world - give them ‘life’ so they would be heard and a chance to maybe get to be recognised as part of a violinistic repertoire.
This CD can be seen as an autobiographical story. It is a reflection of my Yugoslav and Dutch identity and on it, there will be 10 pieces by 8 composers. In addition to the selection of already composed music from 1990 on, three new works are currently being written for me especially as a part of this project.
About the pieces:
They all have their unique musical language and way of expressing thoughts and feelings. From deeply pure honest most tender love to the unearthly sounds in search of answers. There are pieces of deep sorrow of loss, passionate greed for life and love and wildly distorted decomposed beauty. One thing is common to all of them and that they are written or arranged for me with a deep understanding of my ways of playing which is always intense, honest and expressive. I love them all like my children. There are five solo pieces, three for violin and piano, one for violin and cello and the most challenging 3 minutes roller coaster for violin, my own voice and piano.

My goal!
On my YouTube channel, there is a playlist containing talks with composers, my process of studying and learning the pieces called 'Creating D a r k V e l v e t'. With this, my goal is to bring the language of these pieces closer to the listener.
Who is making the CD?
I have two wonderful musicians joining me in a couple of pieces. My 25 year long partner in sound, pianist Reineke Broekhans and the amazing cellist Maja Bogdanovic.
It will be recorded by Guido Tichelman this coming March released on the label Challenge Classics and celebrated with a promotion concert in Amsterdam in the first week of July 2022! Hopefully, more concerts are following!
I could not imagine recording this CD without 'my' Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume 'Ex-Zimmermann'! It has been loaned to me by the Nationaal Instrumenten Fonds to which I am very grateful!
