WHAT IS FLAM
FLAM is an independent platform dedicated to the presentation of trans-disciplinary live art created by artists of divers art languages and cultural backgrounds. Operating as a group exhibition, the multiformity of the works allows a composition of a dynamic program enhancing exchange and close encounters between the public, the artist and the works.
Initiated in 2011, FLAM became the first recurrent festival happening in gallery spaces in the Netherlands, dedicated to live art as a genre which is not tied to a discipline or conventional relations of duration, public and space.
The platform commits to be plural and multiple, supporting diverse gender, physicality’s and cultural identities to arise, meet and dialogue. The event is thus experienced as a manifestation of the queer, in the broadest sense of the word.
WHY SUPPORT?
Your help will be specially dedicated to provide good artists fees and support the productional costs of their works. After two years of pandemic breaks, we got a record number of applications from interesting artists, thirsty to go back live.
The essence of FLAM lies in promoting live encounters between artists, their works and the public. The impossibility of proximity during the pandemic affected FLAM directly artistically and financially.
With your contribution we will be able to organise an astounding manifestation, supporting the visibility of works by wonderful artists.
Please support FLAM #9 become a reality!

ABOUT FLAM#9
FLAM #9 serves a sizzling live art program with performances, audiovisual installations and unexpected interactions from 17 - 22 May 2022. After three years of mostly working behind the scenes, this new edition brings you a wide choice of local and international artists along with their works, which can be witnessed at close range. From a post-apocalyptic one-eyed bird of a cabaret singer named Puddles the Pelican, an earth eating cultural researcher, a rubbing expert that always puts pleasure at the center of work, to a bold musical performance questioning how we perceive otherness, each one of FLAM’s performances proposes a unique experience between the public and the work.
FLAM#9 is unmistakably related to urgent topics of our times. It questions how our identity, which is a process of becoming, is cultural and politically framed. How can we relate to one another in a time of imbalance? Or to the otherness in ourselves?
Your donation is essential to make this edition possible!
Indoor / Outdoor
FLAM opens on Tuesday 17 May with four nights of performances, audiovisual installations and choreographies in the gallery spaces of Arti et Amicitiae. From there we will move, for the first time, to a two day program of outdoor performances at the public spaces of Overhoeks in the north of Amsterdam. We close this year’s manifestation with a vibrant music and performance party at Sexyland.
Besides the live art presentations, a public program of roundtable talks on themes such as the work situation of the freelance artists in the Netherlands, and workshops are being prepared. For more information about the program and the artists, please visit www.flam.online
WHAT MOVES US?
Our main mission is offering space for artists to experiment, dare to take risks, share and present their work to the public.
FLAM focuses on creating an interesting scene and unique experiences, where peer exchange is extended also to the relation between the artist and the public.
An important goal is to form a network that generates sustainability and opportunity for the works to grow beyond FLAM. This year we take a further step by having concrete collaborations with similar international platforms. We have confirmations of curators and programmers from Lausanne ( Les Urbaines), Glasgow ( BUZZcut) and Toronto ( Rhubarb Festival).

FLAM (Live Art Amsterdam) is led by artistic director Rose Akras and the core team members Alice Pons and Olivia Reschofsky. Around this core, other partners are dedicated to make FLAM happen such as
Bea Correa on graphic design, Arti et Amicitiae as our long time partner, Rob Visser in production supervising and Stichting Outline.
We are gladly supported by Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst, Mondriaan Fonds and Gemeentelijk Fonds Amsterdam Noord but your contribution is still essential to make this edition possible.
We count with your help and see you in FLAM!
