Reizen is een geweldige manier om de wereld om ons heen te ontdekken en te waarderen. Maar de reis-mentaliteit helpt ons ook om te (her)ontdekken wat ons drijft. Het stelt ons in staat om uit onze dagelijkse routines te stappen en in het hier en nu te leven. Speciaal ontworpen vragen zullen je aanzetten tot reflectie en dialoog. Tijdens je reis word je vergezeld door inspirerende gidsen van verschillende migratieachtergronden. Zie Nederland door hun ogen via hun geschreven en visuele verhalen. Laat je meenemen op avontuur met spannende activiteiten, en deel je nieuwe ervaringen met bekenden en onbekenden. Aan het einde van je Roots Guide reis zal je Nederland niet alleen anders zien, maar wil je er misschien ook anders in zijn.

SOCIALE IMPACT: DE TOOLKIT
De Roots Guide Educatieve Toolkit voor jongeren van 12 t/m 15 jaar is gebaseerd op dezelfde principes als de gids. Aan de hand van een verzameling van thematische verhalen, activiteiten en reflectievragen kunnen tijdens aardrijkskunde-, economie-, geschiedenis- of maatschappijleerlessen (HAVO, VMBO, VWO) onderwerpen over migratie, erfgoed, identiteit, en inclusie worden verkend en besproken. De toolkit is in de laatste fase van ontwikkeling en zal GRATIS beschikbaar zijn in het engels in print en online. Lees meer over de toolkit hier.

WIE ZIJN WE EN WAT IS ONZE MISSIE?
In 2016, te midden van toenemende polarisatie in Nederland, is het project ‘Roots Guide’ tot leven gekomen. Het bracht storytelling facilitator Ingi Mehus, documentaire fotograaf Rehab Eldalil, evolutionair bioloog Daan Wurpel, associate professor in culturele geografie Meghann Ormond en grafisch ontwerper Hamzah Kashash bij elkaar. Het Roots Guide-project wordt beheerd door de non-profitorganisatie Stichting Pocket Stories. Het is het resultaat van een oprechte collectieve inspanning, die door de jaren heen is uitgegroeid tot een beweging. Roots Guide is mogelijk gemaakt door de toewijding en creatieve energie van meer dan 40 gidsen, 30 vrijwilligers en 30 beta-testers.

WAAROM CROWDFUNDING?
We willen 1000 exemplaren drukken van de Roots Guide gids en 300 exemplaren van de educatieve toolkit (gedrukte exemplaren van de toolkit zullen gratis worden uitgedeeld aan Nederlandse scholen en deze zal ook online gratis beschikbaar zijn). Het project wordt mede ondersteund door de National Geographic Society, waardoor we de gids hebben kunnen beta-testen, de educatieve toolkit hebben kunnen ontwikkelen en een deel van onze drukkosten kunnen dekken. Om de rest van onze klimaatneutraal-gecertificeerde drukkosten en professionele redactiekosten te dekken hebben we nog 8000 euro nodig.

WANNEER VERSCHIJNT ROOTS GUIDE?
Naar verwachting is de gids eind november 2021 klaar voor verzending. De toolkit is begin 2022 beschikbaar in het engels. Een engelse versie van de gids zal op een later tijdstip beschikbaar zijn.

Specially designed questions will encourage you to reflect and inquire. During your journey you’ll be accompanied by guides from diverse migration backgrounds. Let exciting activities take you on your very own adventure, and share your new experiences with friends and strangers. At the end of your Roots Guide journey, you won’t only see the Netherlands differently, but you may also want to be in it differently.

SOCIAL IMPACT: THE TOOLKIT
The Roots Guide Educational Toolkit for young people aged 12-15 utilises the same principles as the guidebook. Using a collection of thematic stories, activities and reflection questions, issues related to migration, heritage, identity, belonging and inclusion can be explored and discussed in geography, economics, cultural education or social studies classrooms (HAVO, VMBO, VWO). The toolkit is in the final phase of development and will be available in English in print and online for FREE. Read more about the toolkit here.

WHO ARE WE AND WHAT IS OUR MISSION?

WHY CROWDFUNDING?
We want to print 1000 copies of the Roots Guide guidebook and 300 copies of the educational toolkit (printed copies of the toolkit will be distributed to Dutch schools at no cost and it also will be available online for free). Publication is in part supported by the National Geographic Society, which has enabled us to beta-test the guidebook, develop the educational toolkit and cover a portion of our printing costs. However, we are in need of an additional 8000 euros to cover the remainder of our costs associated with climate neutral-certified printing and professional editing.

WHEN WILL ROOTS GUIDE BE READY?
The guidebook (the Dutch version) is expected to be ready for shipping by the end of November 2021. The toolkit will be available in English early 2022. The English version of the guidebook will be ready at a later date.
