Prisma's challenge now is an international La Muse release tour. Until April 30th it is possible to support us, please do! Your donation will facilitate acquisition costs, promotion, production and fees.

Een La Muse tour, daar hadden we bij voorbaat nog niet van durven dromen, maar het zit erin! Zodra live-concerten weer mogelijk zijn willen we het podium op.

Het bloedmooie en spectaculair moeilijke Trio à cordes op.105 (1944) van de Franse componist Florent Schmitt verscheen nog nooit op cd. Prisma Strijktrio neemt de uitdaging aan en vervult een langgekoesterde wens: deze verborgen schatkamer weer ontsluiten voor u en voor de wereld.
Toen onze concertagenda in maart vorig jaar plots in het luchtledige oploste, grepen wij - Janneke van Prooijen, viool, Elisabeth Smalt, altviool en Michiel Weidner, cello - de kans op een groots avontuur. Schmitt's werk is uniek: rijk aan kleur, emotie en humor; swingend en bij vlagen symfonisch. Er bestaat geen moderne opname van Trio à cordes; slechts 2 elpees zijn er gemaakt in 1947 en 1985.
Na maanden van studeren namen we het op, samen met "super audio" Cobra Records en dankzij een startsubsidie van Sena Muziekproductiefonds.
De opnames - en hoe u kunt helpen
De opnames zijn geweldig goed gelukt!
Om de muziek van Florent Schmitt weer voor iedereen beschikbaar te maken willen we de cd wereldwijd uitbrengen, maar de lockdown heeft Prisma hard geraakt. We hebben nog een fiks bedrag nodig voor zaalhuur, editing, mastering, teksten, fotografie, grafisch ontwerp en fabricage.

Darius Milhaud en zijn muze
Als tegenhanger van de turbulentie van Schmitt op de cd-in-wording kozen we de intimiteit van La Muse ménagère (1944). Darius Milhaud schreef deze suite van vijftien pianominiaturen uit dankbaarheid voor zijn echtgenote en muze Madeleine, toen het echtpaar in 1940 was uitgeweken naar Amerika om aan de vervolging door de nazi's te ontkomen.
Onze eigen dierbare muzen Bob Gilmore, Petra Griffioen, Tim Kliphuis en Marijn van Prooijen, hebben ieder hun aandeel gehad in het arrangeren van La Muse ménagère voor strijktrio. Over de ontroerende wijze waarop de eerste arrangementen tot stand kwamen vertelt Elisabeth in de video bovenaan deze pagina. Florent Schmitt - a great adventure
Last year, when all our concerts vanished into thin air, we of Prisma String Trio (Janneke van Prooijen, violin; Elisabeth Smalt, viola; and Michiel Weidner, cello) seized the opportunity to realise a lifelong dream: to record French composer Florent Schmitt’s spectacular Trio à cordes op.105 (1944). The most challenging work ever written for string trio, it is colourful, emotional and humorous, alternating swing with symphonic grandeur. Also, it has never been available on CD since the last recording was an LP from 1985! With the help of audiophile label, Cobra Records, we managed to record the full piece after months of practicing.
We chose to balance Schmitt’s turbulence with the intimacy of La Muse ménagère (1944), a suite of 15 piano miniatures by Darius Milhaud, in a brand new version for string trio. We entitled our CD-to-be: “La Muse”!

We are very proud of how the recordings turned out. In order to make Schmitt's music available for everyone again, we have planned a worldwide CD release. As lockdown measures have taken their toll on Prisma’s financial situation, we ask for your support to cover the necessary expenses: hall rental, editing, mastering, texts, photography, design and printing of the CD.

Milhaud and his Muse
Darius Milhaud wrote La Muse ménagère out of gratitude for his wife and muse, Madeleine, after the couple fled to America in 1940 to avoid perscution by the Nazi regime. Our own loved ones, our muses Bob Gilmore, Petra Griffioen, Tim Kliphuis and Marijn van Prooijen, all played their part in re-arranging this suite especially for string trio.

Sinds de oprichting in 2002 staat Prisma Strijktrio (Janneke van Prooijen, viool; Elisabeth Smalt, altviool en Michiel Weidner, cello) garant voor de mooiste muziek op het scherp van de snede. Stevig verankerd in de klassieke strijktraditie vertolkt het trio muziek uit heel de wereld, van alle tijden, in vele stijlen. Oude en nieuwe muziek klinken als vanzelfsprekend naast elkaar.
Prisma is te horen op podia als het Koninklijk Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, Rijksmuseum en De Doelen, en op festivals als Wonderfeel, Grachtenfestival, November Music en op radio en tv.
