Sacred Nature of Aruba

Gedurende de eerste lockdown op Aruba ben ik op een andere manier naar de natuur op dit eiland gaan kijken en begon ik me te verdiepen in de geschiedenis van dit kleine vulkanische eiland. Het eiland is vrij droog met weinig van de weelderige tropische vegetatie die in de Caraïben gebruikelijk is. Ik besloot het unieke landschap te fotograferen. Inmiddels zijn er 24 bewerkte foto's die de prachtige landschappen van Aruba laten zien.

During the first lockdown on Aruba I started to see the nature on this Island in a different way and began to research the history of this small volcanic island. Aruba is dry as a desert and we don't see the lush tropical vegetation common in the Caribbean. I decided to photograph this unique landscape. Now there are 24 edited photo's that show the nature of Aruba through my eyes.

Het boek / The book

Ik wil heel graag mijn ervaring op dit bijzondere eiland delen met anderen. Daardoor ontstond het idee om een boek te maken. Ik heb schrijver Bastiaan Zwiers gevraagd teksten te schrijven geïnspireerd op mijn foto's en zo kwam een bijzondere samenwerking tot stand.

Samen met Uitgeverij Komma zal het luxe kunstboek worden uitgegeven als een zogenaamd flatboek met een harde cover.

Zoals je in de video hebt gezien ben ik heel blij met de mogelijkheid die crowdfunding biedt. Om het boek te laten drukken heb ik namelijk jouw hulp nodig. Steun ons door te doneren en krijg daar een mooie tegenprestatie voor terug.

5% van de de verkoop van het boek doneren we aan de stichting Ban Lanta y Planta op Aruba. Deze stichting heeft als doel om met het aanplanten van bomen op het eiland het natuurlijke ecosysteem te herstellen.

I got the idea of sharing my experience on this Island with others by making a book. I have asked writer Bastiaan Zwiers to write texts inspired on my photographs. The result was a special cooperation.

Together with Uitgeverij Komma this beautiful artbook will be published. The book will be a flatbook with a hard cover.

As you saw in the video I am very happy with the opportunity crowdfunding offers, because I will need your help to print the book. Support us by donating and you will receive a beautiful compensation.

We will donate 5% of the sale of 'Sacred Nature of Aruba' to the foundation Ban Lanta y Planta on Aruba. This foundation plants trees to restore Aruba's natural eco-systems.

Wie wij zijn / Who we are

Anita Hugen
Hallo, mijn naam is Anita Hugen en ik woon al geruime tijd op het mooie Aruba. Een eiland dat vooral bekend staat om het mooie weer en de lange zandstranden. Ik ben docente vormgeving en kunstgeschiedenis. Daarnaast werk ik als freelance illustratrice, fotografe en mixed media kunstenaar. Ik noem mijzelf een "MooiMaker".
Samen met Bastiaan Zwiers heb ik de droom om het boek 'Sacred Nature of Aruba' te realiseren.

Hoi, ik ben Bastiaan Zwiers. Ik woon in Noord-Brabant en werk als freelance creatief schrijver en copywriter. Ik schrijf teksten voor onder anderen websites, reclames en filmscripts, maar bijvoorbeeld ook voor prentenboeken en kinderdetectives.
Voor ons kunstboek heb ik poëtische, mystieke teksten geschreven voor bij de foto's van Anita Hugen.

Hi, I am Bastiaan Zwiers. I live in the Netherlands and work as a freelance creative writer and copywriter. I write texts for web designs, advertisements, film scripts, but also for picture books and children detectives.
I have written mystical poetry for our art book to enhance the photographic designs of Anita Hugen.
