In a Landscape

De afgelopen 20 jaar heb ik zowel als solist als met vele ensembles, orkesten en muziektheater gezelschappen gespeeld. De ervaring met deze diverse uitvoeringspraktijken inspireerde mij om een eigen productie te ontwikkelen waarin verschillende invloeden en disciplines samenkomen.

In 2020 creëerde ik een nieuwe audiovisuele geluidsvoorstelling op basis van hedendaags repertoire voor solo harp met componisten als Takemitsu, Berio, Yun, Cage en Van Rossum. Geen doorsnee repertoire voor de harp, maar composities waarin, onder andere met extended techniques, de uitersten van het instrument wordt opgezocht.

Speciaal voor deze performance werkte ik samen met Tango Soundsystem (TU Delft) aan de ontwikkeling van een interactieve lichtinstallatie.
Hierdoor is de muziek niet alleen te horen, maar ook te zien. Dat samenspel van harp, licht en techniek is In a Landscape.

Met In a Landscape wil ik graag bijdragen aan nieuw repertoire voor de harp en onderzoeken wat de mogelijkheden zijn van onze klankbeleving van dit instrument.

Over the past 20 years I have played as a soloist as well as with many ensembles, orchestras and musical theater companies . The experience with these diverse performance practices inspired me to develop my own production in which different influences and disciplines come together.

In 2020 I created a new audiovisual sound performance based on contemporary repertoire for solo harp with composers such as Takemitsu, Berio, Yun, Cage and Van Rossum. No average repertoire for the harp, but compositions in which, among other things, with extensive techniques, the extremes of the instrument are explored.

Especially for this performance, I worked together with Tango Soundsystem (TU Delft) on the development of an interactive light installation.
As a result, the music can not only be heard, but also seen. That interplay of harp, light and technology is In a Landscape.

With In a Landscape I would like to contribute to a new repertoire for the harp and investigate the possibilities of our sound experience of this instrument.

Inspiratie & nieuwe compositie / Inspiration & new composition

Ik heb me laten inspireren door de Sequenza van Berio.
Met de Sequenza voor harp wilde Berio korte metten maken met het imago van de harp als braaf instrument dat alleen geschikt is voor mooie glissandi. Bizarre klanken, nieuwe speeltechnieken, alles komt voorbij. De richting die Berio hiermee is ingeslagen wil ik graag voortzetten.

Ik wil een werk laten componeren voor solo harp waarin de zoektocht naar een nieuwe klankbeleving centraal staat.
Ik ben op zoek gegaan naar de juiste componist hiervoor en vond die in Italië: Valerio Sannicandro.

I was inspired by the Sequenza by Berio. With the Sequenza for harp, Berio wanted to eliminate the image of the harp as a prudish instrument that is only suitable for beautiful glissandi, with bizarre sounds and new playing techniques. I would like to continue in the direction Berio has taken.

I want to have a work composed for solo harp in which the search for a new sound experience is central.
I went looking for the right composer for this and found him in Italy: Valerio Sannicandro.

Valerio wil speciaal voor mij een nieuw solowerk voor harp schrijven en om dit te realiseren heb ik jullie steun nodig. Het totaalbedrag waar het om gaat is €5000. €3000 hiervan gaat naar het werk van Valerio waarvan hij al een aantal ideeën deelt in de video. De overige €2000 gaat naar de visuele vormgeving en de productie.

Valerio wants to write a new solo piece for harp especially for me and to make that happen I need your support. The total amount I need for this project is €5000. €3000 of this amount will be spent on the composition that Valerio will write, and the remaining €2000 goes to visual design and production. In the video Valerio already shares a few of his ideas for the composition he is going to write.

Ik zou het heel bijzonder vinden samen met Sannicandro een eigen bijdrage te kunnen leveren aan dit geweldige vernieuwende repertoire.
En ik hoop natuurlijk ook van harte dat andere harpisten dit werk in de toekomst zullen gaan spelen.

De lancering van In a Landscape vond afgelopen mei tijdens het DHF in TivoliVredenburg plaats en in het najaar vind een tour plaats langs verschillende zalen en tijdens festivals zoals November Music en Dag in de Branding.

It would be incredible to be able to make my own contribution to this great innovative repertoire together with Valerio Sannicandro.
And of course I sincerely hope that other harpists will play this work in the future.

The launch of In a Landscape took place last May during the DHF in TivoliVredenburg and from the autumn, a tour will take place along various halls and during festivals such as November Music and Dag in de Branding.
