Over Somehow.

Touwen en draden verbinden, een symbiose waar circus en muziek één geheel vormen.

Somehow. is een voorstelling van 30 minuten en is geschikt voor de leeftijd van 8+. De voorstelling wordt mede mogelijk gemaakt door Keep an Eye Foundation, Festival Circolo en Fontys Academy for Circus and Performance Arts.
Première stond gepland op 22 oktober op Festival Circolo, Tilburg. Door de vernieuwde Corona-maatregelen kon dat helaas (nog) niet doorgaan.

"Op de een of andere manier lukt het je om te krijgen wat je wilt, waardoor je alleen en samen met anderen kunt spelen. Alle geluiden omringen je, omringen de kinderen die spelen, het leven in een net. Wie mag er spelen en wie niet? Hoe kun je waarderen wat je al hebt? Wij delen graag onze reis om op de een of andere manier tevreden te zijn met wat er al is. Een gebreid touw, een cello en twee artiesten."

Tegenprestatie: jouw muziek laten klinken!
Altijd al muziek willen maken, maar nooit een instrument leren spelen? Geen probleem bij de workshops muzikaal luisteren en improviseren. We gaan samen op een hele andere manier leren luisteren naar de ruimte en zelf componeren met alles wat er al is. Geen instrument nodig, alleen een paar rake oren!

Wat doet Cia IF?

Cia IF onderzoekt de interdisciplinaire relatie tussen het volledige potentieel van gebreid touw en een cello. Touwen en draden verbinden, een symbiose waar circus en muziek één geheel vormen.

Wie zijn Cia IF?

Mar (1998) is een Catalaanse performer die, nadat ze op de jeugdcircusschool l’Ateneu de 9 barris in Barcelona zat, zich specialiseerde in verticaal touw op de Academy for Circus and Performance Arts, ACaPA (Tilburg, NL). Ze houdt zich bezig met het breien van verschillende soorten constructies/apparatus, het experimenteren met verschillende soorten touwen en papier, alsmede in combinatie met de techniek van het haarhangen. Ze heeft opgetreden op festival zoals Theater op de Markt (B), Axé Cirque (F), Oerol (NL), Mercateatre (Cat) en Festival Stripart (Cat). Naast haar circustraining schrijft Mar gedichten, klimt ze in bomen, maakt ze handgemaakte papieren notitieboekjes en speelt ze viool.

Rogier Hornman (1994) is een cellist en maker van virtuoze, muzikale ervaringen. Zijn werk is levendig, eerlijk en zoekt naar de lichtheid in ons bestaan. De muziek van Rogier bevat de opwinding van circus, de stilistische virtuositeit van Frank Zappa en de opmerkzaamheid van John Cage.

Als improviserend en docerend cellist zoekt Rogier naar de grenzen van het instrument, doorbreekt deze en combineert alle stijlen tot hun gemeenschappelijke factor: geluid. Voor zijn fuserende werk als aanvoerend cellist in het Jong Metropole (olv Jules Buckley en Martin Fondse) won Rogier de Outstanding Talent Award, toegekend door de Keep an Eye Foundation. Rogier is sinds 2017 als improvisator betrokken bij Bevordering Utrechtse Improvisatie, BUI.

Zowel als cellist en als maker weet Rogier anderen te inspireren tot het ontdekken van zijn/haar eigen talent en deze op een optimaal niveau in te zetten. De ervaring staat centraal.

Ropes and strings connect, a symbiosis where circus and music form a whole.

Somehow. is a show of 30 minutes, suitable for everyone older than 8. The show is partly made thanks to Keep an Eye Foundation, Festival Circolo and Academy for Circus and Performance Arts.
The premiere was planned on October 22th at Festival Circolo, Tilburg. Unfortunately this could not (yet) take place because of COVID-19 restrictions.

"Somehow you manage to get what you want, enabling you to play alone and together with others. All the sounds are surrounding you, surrounding the children that are playing around, living inside a net. Who can play and who cannot? How can you appreciate what you already have?
We like to share our journey of somehow becoming at peace with what’s already there. A knitted rope, a cello and two performers."

Have you always dreamt of creating your own music? But have never learned to play an instrument? That is no problem in our workshops 'listening musically and improvising'. We will learn to listen to the space around us in a totally different way, and also learn to compose with everything that's already there. No instrument is needed, just a pair of spot on ears!

What is it that Cia IF does?

Cia IF researches the interdisciplinary relation between the full potential of the knitted rope and the cello. Ropes and string connect, a symbiosis where music and music form a whole.

Who is Cia IF?

Mar (1998) is a Catalan artist who, after being in the youth circus school of l’Ateneu de 9 barris in Barcelona, specialized in aerial rope at the Academy for Circus and Performance Arts, ACaPA (Tilburg, NL). She knits different kind of structures, experimenting with several ropes and papers, as well as combining them with the hair-hanging technique. She has performed in festivals like Theater op de Markt (B), Axé Cirque (F), Oerol (NL), Mercateatre (Cat) and Festival Stripart (Cat). Next to the circus training, she writes poems, climbs trees, makes homemade recycling paper notebooks and plays the violin.

Rogier (1994) is a cellist and creator of virtuosic, musical experiences. His performances are alive, honest, and searches for the lightness in our existence. Rogier’s musical performances contain the excitement of circus, the stylistic virtuosity of Frank Zappa and the mindfulness of John Cage.

As an improvising cellist, Rogier looks for the boundaries of the instrument, breaks those and fuses all styles to their common factor: sound. For his merging work as principal cellist in the Jong Metropole (conducted by Jules Buckley and Martin Fondse) Rogier won the Outstanding Talent Award, awarded by the Keep an Eye Foundation. Rogier has been involved as an improviser with Bevordering Utrechtse Improvisatie (BUI) since 2017.

As well as a cellist and as a creator, Rogier inspires others to discover their own talent and to lift their talent to an even higher level. The experience is key.
