Love is where you find it. I guess maybe I even loved you before I saw you. I guess that’s what’s meant by being in love. I mean, basic love, the desire to be liked. I love, you love, (s)he loves, we love, you love, they love. When someone falls in love his heart soars like a dove... Think of the word love.

A new book featuring a collection of subtitled movie stills about love

Evol/Love is a project in three parts: a billboard series, installation and new publication connecting 160 subtitled movie stills that all contain the word Love. A collage of voices and definitions arranged in alphabetical order, from 'Love is where you find it' (A: A Date with Judy, US 1948, 00:22:37) to 'But even if it’s a little late, love has a way of coming back to you' (Y: Yeonae/Love is a Crazy Thing, KR 2005, 01:38:02), but read backwards to sound like its antonym: evil.

The book will be bound using a Japanese fold with the images mirrored so the 'evol' sentences are exposed, while the loves are visible only on the inside, flowing over the edges of the paper as if on a roll of film. By printing on pink paper and inverting the colors to 'negative' the clichéness and attractiveness of the phrases featured (we hope) become even more exaggerated. Covering the book in a black silk-screened buckram highlights the projection screen as the stills' origin. An extensive index will disclose information about the films referenced, the actors and actresses speaking, as well as directors, screen ratio and others aspects. The book's launch this fall will coincide with a new billboard and handout installations in Amsterdam, Vilnius and Vienna, to be announced soon…

Een nieuw boek op basis van ondertitelde filmstills over de liefde

Evol/Love is een project in drie delen: een billboardserie, installatie en nieuwe publicatie die 160 ondertitelde filmstills met elkaar verbinden die allemaal het woord Love bevatten. Een collage van stemmen en definities in alfabetische volgorde, van 'Love is where you find it' (A: A Date with Judy, US 1948, 00:22:37) tot 'But even if it’s a little late, love has a way of coming back to you' (Y:Yeonae/Love is a Crazy Thing, KR 2005, 01:38:02), met love achterstevoren gespeld zodat het woord klinkt als zijn tegendeel: evil.

Vooraf intekenen maakt de totstandkoming van de publicatie en het project mogelijk.

Door de pagina's in het boek een Japanse vouw te geven en de afbeeldingen in spiegelbeeld te zetten, zullen de zinnen die 'evol' bevatten aan de buitenkant en die met 'love' alleen aan de binnenkant zichtbaar zijn en als op een rol film over de rand van het papier lopen. Met een roze papier als ondergrond voor het drukwerk en de beslissing om de kleuren 'negatief' te maken, wordt (hopen we) het clichékarakter en de aantrekkelijkheid van de citaten aangezet. De keuze voor een zwart buckram met zeefdruk benadrukt projectiescherm als de bron van de stills. Een uitgebreide index zal informatie verschaffen over de films en hun citaten, de acteurs en actrices die ze uitspreken, evenals de regisseurs, schermratio's en andere categorieën. De lancering van het boek dit najaar zal samenvallen met een nieuw billboard en een installatie met handouts in Amsterdam, Vilnius en Wenen..
