Hello!
Type and Media 2020 is graduating and needs your support!
We are the graduating class of the Type and Media Master program, at the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague (KABK), and we are glad that you found us here. We hope that you are safe and well.
We are graduating from our peculiar year of education, and are looking to raise some money to support the physical and online exhibition of our annual Graduation Show at the Academy in the Hague. The event is scheduled to take place between the 10th and 13th of September 2020. The funds will go directly into the material costs of our exhibition, a catalogue, a video series about our work, a gallery website, and the identity of the show. In short, the support will help us put a cap to a strange year, and make the exhibition as interesting and worthwhile as possible for you (on-/offline).
The Type and Media Master program has been a unique experience for us. It’s the place we met, learned to draw, and expanded our understanding of type design, critically questioned our ways of working, and contemplated on the future of type design. The experience has been incredibly enriching, and the product of our work has been distinctive of the 12 students of our class. Unfortunately, our semesters was interrupted in March, like many others around the world, by COVID-19. We were asked to vacate our studios at the Academy, and continue our research and development of our projects remotely, under the guidance of the amazing and generous teaching staff at Type and Media. During this time we learned the difficulties of learning remotely. Despite the distance, we found a way to maintain relationships and grow even stronger.
Due to the pandemic, the KABK postponed the exhibition until September. These unforeseen events, presented us with an opportunity to think about our projects and to find the best possible presentation for them. For the first time in Type and Media history we are seeking for ways to provide in-depth insight into our projects to a larger global audience via a video series on our website, guided tours on social media, and a free take-away catalog of our work.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your generosity, attention, and interest is felt, and deeply appreciated by all of us. With your donation, we will be better able to spread knowledge of type design, and (hopefully) contribute to the future of it. We welcome you to get in touch with us, and ask us any questions that you have, about the work, our crowdfunding, our experience with the program, or even us (hire us!).
Sincerely,
Type and Media, class of 2020
