Body as a Weapon is a multimedia dance solo premiering at Amsterdam Fringe Festival on September 6th. To make it happen, we need your help!
What is it about?
Body as a Weapon is inspired by grand unison parades practiced in Czechoslovakia in the times of Socialism. This solo performance of athletic and rhythmic action examines the cultural and historical context of Eastern European socialist propaganda and highlights the use of female body as a tool for political domination.
In an intense choreography of precision, repetition and vulnerability, Sandra shares an intimate physical confession expressed through movement manipulation, text and video.
When and where?
The performance will premiere at Amsterdam Fringe Festival on September 6th 2020 at 19:00 & 21:15 at CC Amstel. For tickets visit https://amsterdamfringefestival.nl/programma/body-as-a-weapon/
More performances follow on September 7th 19:00 & 20:30, October 23rd (Cc Amstel) and December 9th (Theater de Generator).
A word from the Dance Maker
Hello there,
my name is Sandra Kramerová and I am an Amsterdam-based dance maker of Slovak origin. Recently arrived to the Netherlands, I have been reflecting on my international dance experiences (from Slovakia, Israel and New York) to make dances that combine strong physical work with philosophical and emotional intention.
The idea for this project came out of deepening my curiosity about my Slovak cultural heritage and studying my country's history in an artistic context. I have been interested in observing ideas about womanhood and emancipation within the different cultures and historical and political situations.
Meet the team
As the choreographer and a performer of this project I am collaborating with a team of wonderful international artists in order to make my multimedia vision a reality.
Álvaro Congosto - visual artist; For the past seven years Álvaro has combined his own work as an independent filmmaker with his Film Production Lectures & Workshops at Boston University and freelance work for international clients as an editor and camera operator.
Freek Duinhof - dramaturg; Freek works as a dramaturg in various disciplines, including dance, physical theater and opera. He writes essays, and also makes his own theater work and performances.
Denisa Uherová - music composer; Denisa is a sound designer involved in a broad palette of projects from documentary films, animations, installations to performances as a sound designer and music composer.
Dominika Kramerová - graphic designer; Dominika is a Slovak graphic designer experiencing the design scene in Amsterdam, Prague, Tel-Aviv and Malta. She specializes in branding, package design and production of a personal eco-friendly yoga mat collection.
Boaz van den Ban - Lighting designer; Boaz is visual artist who works as a light designer, technician and creates light installations.
